App UX Writing

Apple Music

(Speculative Scenario)

Challenge

Apple Music, one of my favourite music apps, often gets a bad rep for  feeling like it was built for content providers and tech enthusiasts, rather than for end users who want to use Apple to find and discover music.

Solution

Prioritise end users by humanising Apple Music's voice and framing the user-experience as a journey of music discovery with Apple - our sleek, techy and well-travelled music advisor who also happened to make all the other tech we use.

Process

  • Empathised with passionate Apple Music subscribers across tech blogs that have a love-hate relationship with the app's UX & UI

  • Researched the company's current brand voice, objectives, business aims and USP of the app

  • Compared its features and USP with market leader Spotify and niche favourite Deezer

  • Summarised key opportunities and risks for the app in the current music streaming context

  • Key fact: Apple Music users are likely to be Apple product users

  • Note: process & outcome limited to speculative research/testing

Note

Process & solution limited to speculative scenario.

Execution

Conduct a long-term experimental A/B Test to investigate conversion results with more user-focused CTAs and content titles for popular in-App features.
